Highlights of the Lawrence Bender Road Trip: “One of the gauges of the success of Mardi Gras in New Orleans is the amount of trash that is picked up. This year there were 1200 tons of trash produced, 300 more than the 900 ton average, but less than last year’s 1300 ton mark.” See the video. https://youtu.be/D00IVq-aDAU

Less trash left lying on the public square is a raw statistic. Was there less trash because people bought less or because they disposed of what they bought in receptacles rather than just dropping it onto the street? If the former, this is bad for business. If the latter, it’s a plus for the environment and possibly an encouraging sign that revelers are becoming more civilized.
I’m guessing that the 900 tons is the combined receptacle and street total. Where they dropped it may be moot to the statistic.
